A single flower, a vast mountain range, the expanse of the night sky or the uplifting architecture of a church are reminders that we are part of something larger than ourselves. While there are psychological influences that drive our visual preferences for composition, such as symmetry, order, flow of light, patterns and probably a few others, the overriding source of our visual response, comfort and inspiration is being connected with something larger than ourselves. Hence, the title of his exhibition, “Larger Than Self”. Being outside in an environment surrounded by nature, having a strong association with religion, membership in organizations with social or creative purposes and exploration of the essence of our existence in our place of the universe are all examples of stimulating influences of our creative spirits by these broadly encompassing contexts.
